The ISO is hosting a call on August 10, 2017 to discuss the potential grid impacts of the August 21, 2017 solar eclipse.
The ISO anticipates needing to make up about 6,000 megawatts of lost solar production that day and has developed a mitigation plan to minimize the impact of this shortfall to maintain grid reliability and prevent electricity interruptions. A summary of events and the ISO’s action plan will be shared during the call.
The ISO Customer Service team plans to issue regular communications during the eclipse to keep stakeholders updated on grid conditions. Sign up to receive these updates by submitting your name and email to customercommunications@caiso.
